Hunter Connect Families Inc. Maitland Support Group Meeting, July 22nd 2014

Thank you to Pastor John for letting Hunter Connect Families Inc. use your church facilities,
it is truly appreciated.
Thank you to the families who were able to attend, it was lovely to see you all
out braving the cold. But I’m sure you will agree with me that it was well worth it.
Thank you to Jason, for sharing his family’s beautiful story with us.
And a Huge thank you to Bronwyn Aspinall and Danielle Gregory from
Aspinall Activation Centre  for sharing your knowledge and passion for our children,
with us.
The understanding these two ladies have on how our children’s brains operate is
outstanding. Families are driving from Dubbo, Moruya, Port Macquarie, Armidale
and Canberra to seek the expertise of these highly knowledgeable practitioners,
and they are right here on our door step.
If you were unable to make it to last night’s meeting or would just like to hear
these ladies talk again, they will be at our upcoming Hamilton Meeting on
August 6th from 7pm at Generation Church, Tudor St Hamilton.
Again to the families who joined us last night thank you, our support groups
can only operate because of your support.  We look forward to seeing you again
at our next Hunter Connect Families Inc. Maitland Support Group Meeting on
23rd September 2014 from 7 pm.

Mark Hinchney Naturopathy presents – Complementary Health Care and Autism Spectrum Disorder: is there any research?

Autism Flyer from mark hinchey-page-001

ARE YOU A CARER? Are you concerned about how changes in disability, aged care and mental health support will affect your role as a carer?

  • A carer is anyone who looks after another person of any age with a disability or mental illness, is ageing, or terminally ill.
  • A carer can be any age and may provide practical, physical or emotional support.
  • A carer does not have to live with the person they care for.

With the changes to funding for people requiring disability, aged care and mental health support, it is easy to see why carers are becoming increasingly confused and fearful.

In this environment, it is easy to forget that these changes also bring great opportunities for both the carer and the person cared for, to examine their current lives and service provision and strive for something better.

This workshop series will empower you, as an individual in a caring role to make the most of these opportunities for the person you care for and for yourself.

Within a supportive and interactive group environment, we will demystify the disability and aged care planning process and look at the carers’ dreams and goals and how to translate them into reality. We will also work on communication skills, which will empower you to make connections and give you confidence when communicating with others in all areas of your life.

This workshop series will run over three days.

When: Thursday 12th June, Thursday 19th June and Monday 30th June 2014

Where: The Willows, 342 Hillsborough Road, Warners Bay

Bookings are essential. Please RSVP by 3pm Tuesday 10th June 2014

Letter from CEO

Hi Hunter connect families and friends.

It has been brought to my attention with the closing of our Stockton office that rumours are being circulated that Hunter connect has ceased operation.

Please be reassured that this is not the case. Hunter Connect is still running monthly meetings at Medowie and Newcastle and will still have family fun events through out the year.

As you are all aware Hunter connect is run by volunteers and we rely on donations, grants and fundraising to fund our meetings, fun days and other programs we have to offer.

At the moment money is a little tight, but we have some grant applications in process, some fundraising ventures coming up and donations still coming in.

On that note I would like to take this opportunity to ask if anyone is interested in becoming an active Committee member or a casual volunteer, to help out at fundraising event such as Master BBQ’s etc.

As you all know it takes a lot of organising to bring fun days, camps and especially our Surfers for Autism event together, and with out active committee members and casual volunteer’s these things will not be possible to happen.

If you are interested please contact me, Rachael Corrigan on 0403886384 or via email and I will be happy to discuss details with you.

Again we at Hunter Connect Thank all our Families and Friends for your on going support
