Services Provided-

Monthly Support Meetings:

Support meetings are currently held at Hamilton and Maitland. These meetings are aimed at encouraging and equipping families with the knowledge they need to assist their children in everyday living.

Each meeting generally has a focus topic and a guest speaker attends to discuss this topic.

Social Skills Program:

Our current program is called the Secret Agent Society; this was created by Australian clinical psychologist, Dr Renae Beaumont, and is regarded as one of the most successful programs of its kind in the world.

SAS captivates children with its espionage-themed games and eye-catching resources. Kids learn how to recognise and manage their own feelings, cope with change, detect other people’s emotions, talk and play with others and deal with bullying.

Siblings Program – Sibling’s Space

Sibling’s Space gives siblings the opportunity to discuss what it is like to grow up with a brother or sister with a disability or illness.

This program provides tools for each child to be able to deal and cope with day to day life, school, and society whilst also acknowledging that at times having a sibling with autism, disabilities or illness can sometimes feel all encompassing.

This program is based on Kate Strohm’s Siblings Book and Program. For more information contact rachael@hunterconnect.org.au

Family Fun Events:

The aim of Hunter Connect Family Fun events is to offer a non-judgemental environment for families affected by ASD and other Neurological disorders to come and enjoy the company of other families experiencing a similar journey. These events are low cost and cater for Parents, carers, children affected by ASD and Siblings.

Family Camps:

Hunter Connect endeavours to hold a family camp once a year.  Locations may vary but will always cater to our family’s needs in the best possible way whilst being affordable.

If possible Hunter Connect applies for a variety of grants etc. to subsidise camp costs for our families.

 Surfers For Autism:

An annual event held at Nobby’s beach, Newcastle with the aim of the day being to create a non-judgemental free community event where families connect, and children with ASD experience the joy of surfing whilst overcoming a variety of sensory issues and have some fun in the sun, sand and surf.

Whilst the day caters for up to 200 ASD kids learning to surf, parents and siblings are well catered for by a variety of beach based activities, games and raffles.

All funds raised through raffles held on the day, go towards Hunter Connect programs throughout Term 1 of that year.
